UNITED WORKERS’ UNION 

Are you passionate about giving a voice to workers and improving their lives through workplace and social change? If yes, the United Workers Union wants you! 

 

We are seeking 8 highly motivated people across Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, who are interested in becoming Organisers, to be part of an exciting program at UWU.  

 

The program focusses on developing new and beginner organisers. It will deliver structured training, mentoring and other support as we welcome new Union Organisers at UWU. 

 

No prior Organising experience is required 

 

The roles are full-time, and upon successful completion of the program, will be ongoing positions.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

A Beginner Organiser’s key responsibilities will include to: 

  • Deliver an organising conversation/message that moves workers to action 
  • Handle objections from workers and sign-up workers with a powerful union message
  • Execute organising plans ensuring membership growth; member leadership and action; and winning industry power
  • Identify and assist with the development of delegates and members 
  • Participating in the union’s political and social justice agenda
  • Ensure that the Union’s values of equity, diversity and inclusion are upheld and promoted 
 

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA 

Please respond to following selection criteria:  

  • Outline your previous experience building power in your workplace or outside of your workplace 
  • Detail your previous experiences in political and/or social justice campaigning
  • Why do you want to be a union organiser?
  • Describe your communication skills including face to face and online
  • Please outline any other relevant information 
  • Provide any relevant references  

To perform this job, you will also be required to have or obtain prior to commencement and maintain:   

  • A current unrestricted driver’s licence;
  • Right of Entry Permits (procedures will be put in place prior to commencement to enable you to obtain ROE permits); and 
  • Immunisation against COVID-19 or have a medical exemption
 

REMUNERATION 

An attractive remuneration package will be offered to the successful applicant, which will include a:  

  • A salary of $76,156 pa
  • A motor vehicle allowance to cover the costs for the use of your reliable and fully insured motor vehicle; (successful applicants who do not own a motor vehicle may be supplied with a motor vehicle, in lieu of the allowance) 
  • 16% superannuation 
  • 6 weeks annual leave plus 25% leave loading

Please note, if you are successful in gaining an interview, you must attend ONE compulsory group information session on either 8, 12 or 13 August. Interviews will be conducted online across the weeks beginning 19 and 26 August 2024.
